Piano, Guitar

Austin Simonds is a classically trained pianist and composer based in Dallas, Texas. He studied piano extensively at the University of North Texas, graduating with double Bachelor of Music degrees in both Composition and Music Theory. He then went on to earn his Master of Arts degree from the University of Chicago.

Austin’s students have ranged from 7-year-old beginners to advanced-level adults. In addition to piano, he also teaches acoustic and electric guitar at all skill levels, and specializes in music theory, composition, and songwriting. These other areas of music are often interwoven in lessons, especially if the student is curious and passionate about these subjects. Students can expect lessons to be tailored to their individual needs and interests; whether you are an absolute beginner, or a more advanced musician, every lesson will be geared to help you reach your musical and creative goals.

In addition to teaching and performing, Austin has gained increasing fame as a composer. Though his main focus is concert music, he has also worked with choreographers, filmmakers, and music theater directors in collaborations and other projects. His work has been performed across the U.S., as well as in Hong Kong and in Fontainebleau, France. Ensemble performances include the University of North Texas Symphony, Roomful of Teeth, ~Nois Saxophone Quartet, Ensemble Dal Niente, and the Donald Sinta Quartet. Most recently, he had the honor of being selected to premiere his new work for solo piano, "Aurora Winter," for the Keyboard in the 21st Century International Conference for Composers. Additionally, his piece “Luxuria” for piano quintet was selected as the First Prize winner of the Prix de Composition Maurice Ravel. The prize included a new commission to be premiered by members of Ensemble Intercontemporain in 2020.
