Sarah Rodriguez

Sarah Rodriguez grew up in a musical household in a small town outside of Waco, Texas. Her parents were also music majors and instilled music in her from an early age. She began piano lessons at 6 years old, then flute at age 10. Sarah competed at the state level in competitions and festivals on both instruments, devoting her young life to practicing and accompanying.

Ms. Rodriguez attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where she earned her bachelor degree in piano pedagogy and flute performance under the instruction of Dr. Andrew Parr and Dr. Diane Boyd. While there, she was a member of the symphonic band and orchestra. Accompanying became an equally enjoyable and fulfilling pastime for Sarah, assisting the voice and musical theater departments in rehearsals and performances. She became recognized as one of the most versatile musicians in attendance during her time at the university.

2005 was a milestone in Sarah's life as she received her masters degree in piano pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, studying under the highly regarded Dr. Jane Magrath. From this point on, Sarah realized just how passionate she was about teaching and how strongly she wanted to impact her students' lives. Creating a structured, yet fun and uplifting environment brings joy and a rewarding experience for all involved!

Since graduating, Sarah has lived in Dallas and surrounding areas. Here, she has been a member of MTNA, PMTA, FMTA, and National Guild of Piano Teachers. Nothing makes her happier than teaching piano; however, frequently performing as a collaborative pianist to choral and instrumental soloists and ensembles allows her technique to remain in the advanced class. Additionally, the music created collectively is immensely gratifying for the listener and performer alike - win, win!

Sarah Rodriguez believes that teaching should never stop being a learning experience, even at the professional level. Keeping one's mind open to new teaching approaches makes for the most creative and imaginative instruction. Each student's personality is unique, therefore everyone learns differently. Sarah understands that each student should be catered to in this regard. She feels studio recitals and competitions are important, as well, to keep lessons rewarding and students motivated to strive for greatness in their craft. To quote Beethoven, "Music can change the world."
