Flute, Piccolo

Caitlin Oliver received her Master of Music in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where she studied with Cynthia Meyers, piccolo player with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. While in Boston, Caitlin performed with the NEC Philharmonia, NEC Wind Ensemble, and was a member of the NEC Honors Woodwind Quintet, a group chosen through competitive audition to represent the Conservatory as an Honors Ensemble for the 2014-2015 year.

Caitlin previously graduated magna cum laude with her Bachelor of Music in Performance from George Mason University’s School of Music in Fairfax, Virginia, as a student of Professor Julianna Nickel. During her time at GMU, Caitlin performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Flute Choir, and won the opportunity to give a performance of Debussy’s Syrinx for solo flute on the School of Music’s Honors Recital in 2014. Caitlin is continually improving her skills as a flutist by taking auditions for orchestras, military bands and festivals around the country.

Caitlin enjoys teaching students of all ages and ability levels, and has experience teaching students ages 6 through adult, from beginners picking up the flute for the very first time to advanced students. She works to customize her teaching to best suit each individual’s learning style, and aims to give her students the tools they need to achieve success in their own musical goals. Caitlin believes that learning an instrument should be fun and should boost confidence rather than anxiety; she strives to create a safe, comfortable space in every lesson, where stress in low but focus is high, so that maximum learning can take place.

Caitlin hopes that through sharing her passion for music making, she is able to help foster a lifelong curiosity and love of music in her students.
