Rana Poindexter-Berryman comes from a close-knit Christian family in Washington, D.C., where her musical talent emerged early on. Beginning violin and piano lessons at age four with her mother, she later focused on the oboe. By age seventeen, she had performed extensively across the United States, Canada, and internationally with the D.C. Youth Orchestra Program. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts/Mass Media from the University of the District of Columbia, thereafter establishing a successful career in stage and film.

Renowned for her versatility as an actor, dancer, and singer, Rana has starred in productions such as The Little Shop of Horrors, Dreamgirls (as Lorell Robinson), Black Nativity, Jelly’s Last Jam, and the national tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’, including performances at Presidential Inaugural Balls.

Rana has collaborated and recorded with legendary artists, contributing as a songwriter and vocalist. Her journey has been profoundly influenced by her mother’s role as a gospel recording artist and music teacher, which has shaped her commitment to music education and inspired her work on an upcoming inspirational CD. Rana holds a master’s degree in Music Education from Columbia University, Teachers College, and currently teaches instrumental and vocal music.
