Flute, Piano
Michele Walton is a freelance musician in the Washington, DC, area. She is currently working towards her DMA in Orchestral Instruments in Flute at Catholic University of America, where she studies with Alice Weinreb (National Symphony Orchestra).
As a musician, Michele has experience in chamber, orchestra, and band ensembles. Currently she performs with the Catholic University Orchestra. She has served as principal flutist and section leader of the Houghton College Philharmonia and has performed with the Houghton College Symphonic Winds. She also has experience as a pit musician and has played in a number of operas and musicals, including Puccini's Gianni Schicci and Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore.
As an orchestral player, Michele's repertoire includes everything from Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3 to Prokofiev's Classical Symphony and Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, Suite No. 2. As a soloist, her repertoire includes everything from the Bach flute sonatas to Jennifer Higdon's Rapid Fire.
Michele holds a Master of Music degree from The Greatbatch School of Music Houghton College, where she studied with Rebecca Gilbert (Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dr. Angela McBrearty. She has also studied flute with Christine Bailey Davis (Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dr. Sophia Gibbs Kim, piccolo with Dr. Angela McBrearty, and piano with Virginia Halberg.
Michele has completed many years of advanced pedagogy instruction and is capable of teaching piano and theory at the beginner through intermediate levels. She teaches flute to students of all skill levels.
