Lisa Tuvalo

Lisa Tuvalo began playing piano when she was 9 years old.  She had received a play piano for Christmas when she was 8 and a half, and she couldn’t stop playing different tunes on it.  Six months later, her parents bought her a piano, and she has been playing ever since.

She studied with Mr. Englemann for her first year of piano.  Then, for seven years, she took piano lessons from Miss Esther Howe, a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.  She competed every year at Peabody Conservatory of Music in solo, trio and quartet performances.  In addition, she took the annual exam from the National Guild of Piano Teachers every May where she was expected to play at least seven pieces by heart to a judge and her scales and chords.  She graduated with a high school diploma in music from the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

In 2011, she began taking clarinet lessons, and for the past year, she has been playing the clarinet with the Takoma Park Community Band.  She enjoys teaching a variety of genres to her piano students.  She always emphasizes the value of commitment and fun to learning how to play the piano.
